The
R-Value of 11 and R-Value of 8.5 for the Owens Corning
PinkCap Attic Stair Insulator and Attic Stairway Insulator
respectively are only accomplished when the cover is positioned on a
flat surface (Platform) in the attic with no air leakage. Owens Corning
does not supply any weather stripping for the Attic Stair
Insulator and Attic Stairway Insulator covers to prevent air
leakage. The Attic Stair Insulator and Attic Stairway Insulator
covers do not comply with the ENERGY STAR Home Sealing program due
to the lack of weather stripping and a latching device. NOTE:
The PinkCap Attic Stair Insulator is the exact same product
as the Draft Cap cover from Atticap Corporation. Atticap is the
manufacturer of the PinkCap for Owens Corning and their Draft Cap brand
cover. The only difference is that one is blue and the other is pink in
color. The Draft Cap cover sells for $99.95 on their website plus $29.95 to $49.95 shipping charges. The McCoy Building Products' covers are further superior to the Insulsure Attic Tent covers in that the one model of Attic LadderMate will replace the multiple models of Attic Tent and the Attic Stair Insulator and Attic Stairway Insulator models,
eliminating the need for dealers and retailers to stock multiple models
when they can stock just the Attic LadderMate. The Attic Tent also
requires the purchase of a staple gun and staples and a caulk gun and
caulk for the installation. The R-Value of 3 on the Attic Tent does not
comply to the Energy Star Guidelines or the majority of Green Building
programs across the country which recommend a minimum of R-5, nor does
the R-Value of "0" on the Owens Corning PinkCap Attic Stair Insulator and Attic Stairway Insulator if not properly installed. Another factor
in the comparison is the difference of the cost between the McCoy
Building Products' covers and the Insulsure and Owens Corning products,
more than $150 difference when you factor in that the McCoy covers
eliminate the custom door construction and the finish trim. As a
result, multiple Attic LadderMate covers could be purchased and
installed for the price of a single Insulsure or Owens
Corning products.
